Kidnapping humans is a startlingly common hobby for magical beings. It's more of a fairy thing, but trolls doing it wouldn't be out of the question considering they're a stone's throw from fairies species-wise.

In general it's reasonable to assume any magical being you deal with has a very loose grasp on morality if it has any morals at all.
That does sound a lot like my experiences with the trolls. I guess it must be hard for them to understand how things work for us.
